Businesswoman told to switch tables because her £195 ‘trainers’ broke the dress code

A businesswoman was told to switch tables at an exclusive members’ club as her £195 black leather Russell & Bromley ‘trainers’ broke the dress code.

Lisa Gordon, chairman of Cenkos Securities, pledged never to return to the City of London Club after staff asked her to move because of her ‘flatforms’, which have a white sole and no laces.

She and her guest were moved to a table in ‘the corner next to the kitchen’, The Sunday Times reported. The club was founded in 1832 and members have included the Duke of Wellington. Its website states: ‘Denim, sportswear and trainers are not allowed at any time.’

It comes after Liz Truss ditched heels for £138 white trainers from Reiss at this month’s Tory party conference.

Mrs Gordon is not a member of the club but her lunch partner is.

A spokesman for the club said: ‘The member who has invited them will be reminded it is their responsibility to inform a guest of our dress code.’
